Happy New Year - A 2024 Recap!

Last year was hectic for our team at Fifields Construction, from expanding our team, introducing new services, and completing a vast amount of projects across the Southwest. Throughout this blog, we will reflect on a few of our 2024 projects.

  1. The Salvation Army

In the spring of 2024, we were awarded an exciting project to refurbish the internal and external areas of the Salvation Army building. The project featured a large scaffold system around each elevation of the building with extensive re-roofing works, including the removal of existing roof coverings and associated materials to allow for the installation of new roof coverings and solar photovoltaic panels. Other external works include the clearance of existing rainwater goods and external redecorations.

  1. RHS Rosemoor Gardens

At the beginning of last year, we undertook a reception, WC and retail area refurbishment within this beautiful garden site. This project was a huge success and was loved by many individuals across the Southwest.

The finished project offers the client an enhanced and more inviting open-plan entrance for their visitors, as well as modernised bathroom facilities.

In addition to the renovation work, we also fully refurbished the existing male, female, and disabled restrooms.

Originally, the project was scheduled to be completed within a timeframe of 12 weeks; the project was eventually compressed into 9 weeks, starting on January 2nd and ending on March 1st.

  1. Leonardo Hotel

Last year, we carried out a refurbishment project alongside F-tec commercial services at Leonardo Hotel. The project included new meeting rooms, kitchen areas and a lobby space.

The finished project provided a well-equipped space for the hotel staff to carry out their duties efficiently daily.

  1. Grendon Road - Phase One

Last March, we celebrated the first phase of completed refurbishment works at Grendon Road Almshouses.

The works comprised the demolition of the flat-roofed 1960s one-storey additions at the rear, replacing them with energy-efficient two-floor extensions with pitched roofs. Extensive groundworks were undertaken to supply new incoming services with external remodelling and new landscaped terraces and gardens.

The new rear extensions are comprised of steel beams fixed to external blockwork, with double-pitched roofs and mono-pitched roofs to the ground floor extensions.

Internally, the works included refurbishment to the existing buildings, new rendering to the extensions with glazing, floor finishes and decorations throughout. New mechanical and electrical services have been provided with underfloor heating, modern shower rooms, ensuite toilets and kitchens.

The end result has left the residents with modern, energy-efficient housing, upgrading the apartments whilst retaining the distinctive character of a building with historical importance.

These are just a few of the projects that we completed in 2024. It's always a pleasure to work closely with a range of architects, subcontractors and businesses across the Southwest.

We look forward to helping many more businesses across the Southwest create their dream building.
