In 2022, Fifields Construction secured a contract to undertake repairs and redecorations to Buckland Abbey, a 700-year-old Grade I Listed property located in Yelverton. The abbey, which is part museum and part house, is of significant historical importance and natural beauty, making it an essential heritage site for people to appreciate.

The project at Buckland Abbey involved erecting carefully designed scaffolding to two elevations of the building. The works included masonry repairs to the existing chimney stacks, localised pointing repairs, alterations and repairs to the existing pitched slate roof coverings, and the repair/replacement of cast iron rainwater goods where
required. Other works involved joinery and metalwork repairs to the existing windows and doors and redecoration of previously painted surfaces. All the works were carried out while the property and surrounding area remained occupied.

The end result of the project provided the property with essential cyclical upgrades, enhancing the cosmetic and integral features of the building. The high-quality finish delivered by Fifields Construction did not affect the building's overall historical aesthetic.

Coleton Fishacre, Kingswear - Historic Section

In 2022, Fifields proudly joined hands with the National Trust to deliver a project that involved cyclical external repairs and
redecorations to Coleton Fishacre in Kingswear. This Grade II Listed 1920's country retreat boasts a unique aesthetic and rich history, making it imperative to preserve the building's historical appearance while undertaking the necessary repairs and upgrades.

The project involved a range of tasks, including installing a new land drain, repairing and re-rendering the flat roof elevation, and carrying out joinery repairs to the existing windows and doors. Additionally, ground level decorations, repairs to the pitched roof, cast iron rainwater good repairs, and chimney repairs were also carried out on the south elevation.

Through this project, the property has been renewed and upgraded, with improved aesthetics and technical features that have not impacted its historical appearance. The successful completion of the project is a testament to Fifield's expertise in delivering high-quality projects
that meet the unique needs of each client.
